What does it involve?

The first appointment is an opportunity for us to explore what has brought you to counselling and what you are hoping to gain from it. I can explain how I work and together we can decide a way forward.

If you wish to go ahead, we would arrange to meet for an initial number of 1 hour sessions. We would regularly review progress so that you could consider how well counselling is working for you and any changes you might like to make.

Ideally sessions are weekly and preferably not less than fortnightly, though we can be flexible depending on your requirements.

The number of counselling sessions varies greatly from client to client depending on the issues involved and the outcome being sought. Short-term work of between approximately 6 to 12 sessions can produce excellent results particularly with recent issues which are clearly defined.  Longer term therapy is appropriate where problems are more complex and offers the opportunity to work at greater depth and with multiple topics.

Clients are free to end counselling at any time though I would recommend that we have a final session so that we can bring the work to an appropriate close.
